These tasks assess your knowledge and understanding of key concepts, issues, and materials. It might seem like you have too few words to work within these responses. However, the short response format is extremely useful as it forces you to be selective, concise, and carefully focused on the task you
have been set. The point is not to show us how much you have learned, but to show us that you can achieve the specific task.

In longer essays, you will often need to be able to define a concept, debate, or argument and to explain its significance accurately and concisely before you are able to apply it to an example or specific issue.
